YES, it’s good news that Dorchester isn’t going to lose the Fairfield market site and car park and that the Wednesday and Sunday markets can stay – for the time being anyway. But does the town need another market, albeit ‘covered’, in Charles Street?
Why not use some of the earmarked £2m to ‘enhance’ the existing market, eg, beef up the variety of stalls, and with the use of the internet and really good signage direct the market shoppers to the centre of the town with its Old Quarter, museums, Roman remains and all?
This way the visitors acquire ‘market’, ‘heritage’ and ‘leisure’ experiences.
And we save some money to build – a decent bus station?
