I RECENTLY read in the Echo that registration for the forth coming sailing speed week is now open. The article specifically refers to this international event as the Weymouth Speed Week and also welcomes visitors to Weymouth, has the venue changed this year?

From the very beginning this international event has always taken place in the waters of Portland Harbour and as far as I can remember has always been called Portland Speed Week, certainly by Portland locals.

The article also states that a number of very fast runs have been recorded at Weymouth which is completely wrong the runs were recorded at Portland.

The competitors use the facilities of the Portland and Weymouth Sailing Academy.

Would it not be appropriate for the organisers to welcome visitors and competitors to the Portland Speed Week that will take place on the waters of the Isle and Royal Manor of of Portland where they can actually see the sailing take place in Portland Harbour within a very short distance from the Portland Beach road.

If this event is continued to be called Weymouth Speed Week then try it in Weymouth Bay and good luck to them.
