Hi readers, it’s Emily and William here this week talking about a sponsored walk we will be taking part in, with some People First Dorset members, on Saturday 22nd September.

The aim is to raise money for People First Dorset, a user led charity supporting people with learning disabilities to speak up for ourselves, who support us to write this column. And that’s exactly what we do here – speak up!

It’s more than a sponsored walk though. It’s actually a fancy dress seaside parade along Weymouth promenade. We start at one end at 10am, and finish the other end round about lunchtime, where we will meet staff from the New Vic for a meal.

A lot of us will get dressed up. I, Emily am going as a security guard with a personalised name badge, high vis jacket and a pair of old handcuffs! I, William, haven’t decided if I am going to dress up yet. I would like to dress up as a superhero, probably someone like Batman.

We have got sponsorship form and a few sponsors already. Not many but better than none. If you wanted to sponsor us, you would be welcome to turn up that Saturday morning at the Oasis café to meet us, or at 12.30pm at the New Vic. If you can’t get there, you can always donate online at the People First Dorset Local Giving page. If you do this, please do say you read about it in our column at the Echo, so we can thank you properly.

We hope to persuade the Echo editor to put our photo and a small article about our Seaside Walk after the event. Just by writing this, we think he will know we will be writing to him then! See you soon, we’re off training.

The writers of the Our View column are supported in their editing by The Friendship Club– a project for adults with learning disabilities, run by People First Dorset
