A COURAGEOUS Weymouth woman will take to the skies for a daring fundraiser after losing two friends to suicide.

New mum Bethany Bevis, aged 25, is taking part in a 10,000ft charity tandem skydive.

All the money she raises through the jump will be donated to the mental health charity, Mind.

Miss Bevis said: “I’ve never done anything like this before, but I’m very excited about the challenge.

“I wanted to do a skydive because it’s probably going to give me more of an adrenaline rush than a sponsored walk or run.”

Swapping the comforts of home for a parachute and falling at 120mph is something entirely new for Bethany, but that’s not phased the fearless mum.

“I’ve flown in aeroplanes a lot, so that won’t be the problem,” Miss Bevis said. “I can’t say I’ve jumped out of one before though.”

Miss Bevis said she wanted to raise money for charity, Mind after losing friends due to mental health.

“I lost two close friends to suicide in the last five years so this cause is close to my heart,” Miss Bevis said.

Mind is a charity that provides advice and support to people struggling to overcome mental health and campaigns to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

On her Just Giving page, Miss Bevis said: “Dorset has the highest suicide rate in the UK. I chose Mind because of the work they do around Dorset and wanted to support that.”

She is determined to not only raise money but awareness too, especially when it comes to male mental health.

“More than 6,000 people per year lose their life to suicide, eight out of ten of these are men,” Miss Bevis said.

The charity skydive is due to take place on Saturday, November 10 at GoSkydive at Salisbury Airfield.
