Hi readers, it’s Emily and William here this evening, writing on Carluccios balcony in the evening sunshine.

We are all wearing new sunglasses. My (Emily) new sunglasses are prescription sunglasses because I can’t see otherwise! They have blue frames with some black lines on them and brown lenses, and they are a smart designer brand. I like them because they are comfy, they suit me and they were on offer! I am happy because other people thought they suited me as well.

As for me, William, I also have new sunglasses because I lost my other pair. I bought them by myself in Boots and like Emily, chose them because they were the cheapest and because I liked the look of them. They are brown frames and also very nice to wear.

We both like wearing sunglasses because although sunhats can help shade our eyes, we prefer glasses as they’re better than a hat, especially when the sun is bright.

Like tonight, the sun is very strong and low, so we all need sunglasses. Laura, who helps us edit this column, has the hardest job this evening because she is writing what we say on her laptop with the sun getting lower and streaming into her eyes. She says she’s grateful for her new sunglasses she got on holiday too!

We learnt today that if you don’t protect your eyes from the sun, you could end up getting macular degeneration, so another good reason to wear them. Perhaps one day we will be able to avoid sunglasses and protect our eyes with sun cream – if only that would work!

So when you are out and it’s sunny, try to make sure you have a good pair of sunglasses and remember to wear them, and don’t look directly into the sun.
