IT WAS great to see how many visitors to Dorchester were enjoying the Architectural Heritage day on Sunday. Everyone seemed to enjoy the free visitor attractions and I spied a lot of people with leaflets in hand admiring our wonderful architecture.

The Borough Gardens were alive with the sound of music from the Warm Festival, an important local charity, and everyone there seemed to be enjoying the sunshine when it appeared.

How disappointed was I then to spot a traffic warden at 3.30pm on a Sunday handing out parking tickets. These were not on cars causing obstructions but just visitors trying in vain to find parking places in Dorchester.

The council seem hell bent on making Dorchester as unattractive a place to visit as possible. I have observed traffic wardens out on Bank Holidays and early Sunday morning in an attempt to maximize their coffers.

I was a volunteer when Dippy came to town earlier on in the year and was dismayed at the number of visitors who complained of getting a parking ticket on a bank holiday.

Maybe if we saw improvements in our town from the collection of this extra tax on visitors then it may not be so bad. However, sadly, I have yet to see such improvements.
