TOUCHING back upon our memories of the Weymouth's branch of Woolworths, we're sharing some wonderful recollections from Jean Matthews of Dorchester.
The Woolworths store was the reason why Jean came into existence!
She tells us: "My father was sent there from London as an assistant manager in 1925, met my mother at the Palm Court ballroom, married and in 1930 I was born -so good old Woolworths! (3p and 6p store).
"Mum and dad had 72 happy years together - so for me many happy memories."
The picture here is of the Weymouth branch of Woolworths in 1923 when it opened - two years before Jean's father went to work there.
Thanks to Jean for telling us how Woolworths played such a big part in her family history and we're delighted to hear how much she enjoys reading Looking Back each week.
