DORCHESTER Town winger Aaron Rodriguez admitted he is “pleased to be back” after contributing heavily during the Magpies’ 2-2 Evo-Stik Southern Premier South draw at Beaconsfield Town.

Rodriguez followed up a goalscoring appearance from the bench in Dorchester’s 3-0 win over Wimborne Town with an 82nd-minute goal against the Rams.

The former Weymouth man also struck a shot that cannoned off the post and back off goalkeeper Nick Hamann into the net for the Magpies’ opener.

Speaking to Echosport after the contest, Rodriguez echoed manager Steve Thompson’s thoughts in believing the county town side were deserving of three points.

He said: “To be honest I thought we deserved three points from the game. We had the majority of possession and the majority of the best chances.

“A point away from home – you can’t complain. Kingsley (Latham) had a good game and didn’t really have much difficulty other than the two goals.

“On reflection we’re a bit gutted we didn’t take three points but a point isn’t anything to be sniffed at away from home in this league.”

Rodriguez, who is working his way back to full fitness after breaking his foot in a five-a-side game one week before pre-season, revealed he has returned to action quicker than initially expected.

He said: “I was just pleased to be back playing and getting back into the swing of things. I’m back earlier than expected with my injury and I’m enjoying playing – I’ve had a lot of time off.

“To start with they said two to three months. It’s been about six weeks. I feared the worst and thought it would be a big chunk of the season.

“I did it the week before pre-season so I’m building up my fitness.”

Elaborating on how he sustained the injury, he said: “I was just playing to get some last-minute preparations for pre-season.

“It was just one of those things, it could’ve happened in training or a match. It wasn’t easy to tell Steve!

“I just want to keep going. When I signed I was really looking forward to a full season at Dorchester. I’ve had another setback but I’m happy to play.

“Hopefully we can push on now. We’ve got a big game against Tiverton in the FA Cup (on Saturday).”
