Firefighters tackled flames reaching eight to 10ft on Holme Lane in Wareham.
The incident happened last night.
Wareham Fire Station received a call at 7.38pm from members of the public who were at Wareham Quay. They said they could see a fire nearly two miles away towards Creech.
Crews from Wareham and a Land Rover from Bere Regis were then sent to extinguish a heath fire on Holme Lane.
A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Upon arrival and with the view of 8-10ft flames our officer in charge immediately made up for one further appliance, one off-road appliance and a further Land Rover coming from Hamworthy and two from Swanage respectively. The fire was extinguished using two hose reel jets, one high pressure hose reel and beating. We also needed to do shuttle runs to the nearest hydrant to ensure we had enough water."
