Residents and visitors alike linked arms for a dance extravaganza outside Tom Browns' pub in Dorchester.

Hundreds of people put their left arm in and left arm out, before shaking it all about in what appeared to be a spontaneous 'hokey cokey.'

A video of the dance has been viewed thousands of times on social media, and can be watched below.

The idea for a giant 'hokey cokey' came from one of the pub's regulars, Matt Parkes.

Katie Jones, manager of Tom Browns' pub, said: "One of our regulars heard that the road was going to be closed and thought it would be fun, so we all got together and organised it."

High East Street and High West Street were closed on Sunday as part of a heritage open day giving people the opportunity to explore the town's historic roads and buildings.

She added: "We spread the word through Facebook and social media. A couple of hundred people got involved, we weren't sure how many to expect, it could have gone either way. Hopefully it will be an annual event."

She joked that there could be a giant conga next, and added: "We were very happy with the amount of people who turned up. I'd like to thank everyone who made it such a nice community event and we look forward to them coming back next year."
