WE RECENTLY from a lovely two-week holiday in Weymouth.

On the subject of dog owners, we found it quite disturbing the amount of owners that think that everyone “likes dogs” .

Myself and my husband were sitting round at the marina at Portland on the wall watching the visiting ship Disney Magic. Numerous dog walkers had passed some on leads others not. Leads that are controlled by the owners, letting dogs roam yards ahead of them obstructing the public.

I was so engaged watching the views when suddenly a Jack Russell dog jumped on my lap and frightened the life out of me. I jumped up to the surprise of the owner shouting across at me “ He only wanted to say hello”. She seemed so angry that I didn’t want to acknowledge the dog. How dare she assume that I was not frightened of that dog. The shock of me jumping up could have quite easily resulted in the dog biting me.

We noticed that there seemed to be more dogs than ever in Weymouth.

I’m not saying people shouldn’t have dogs, but surely they should consider the fact whether people are frightened of them, and try to keep the flexible leads with the dogs on closer to themselves as not to obstruct people, especially if there is somebody whose sight isn’t 100% and cannot see those flexible leads.
