A total of 13 drivers were issued tickets for using their phones at the wheel in Weymouth.

The tickets were issued over a three-hour period on Thursday.

A plain clothed officer was used a spotter who alerted unmarked vehicles to pull over motorists.

Sergeant Mark Farrow of Dorset Police said: “We’ve had a successful morning so far; a number of fixed penalty issues have been given out in relation to driving while using mobile phones. I can’t express how important it is for you as drivers not to use your mobile phones. There’s a reason the fines and penalties for doing so was raised. They’re a main contributor and factor to road traffic collisions.”
