WHEN one reaches a certain age we are supposed to have some memory loss, not taking in situations as quickly as we did in our youth, certainly for me, I know I have become more cynical as the years roll by.

I have just had posted through the letter box leaflets – one from the Lib Dems giving an update on services provided by the council and their part in the decision making, one of which being the turn around of the Fairfield site not now to be used as a retail area!

Certainly public opinion was against turning the Wednesday market into retail premises as the market brings tourism into Dorchester.

Could the collapse of some major retailers have something to do with this decision?

If memory serves me right wasn’t Mrs Jones pushing for the retail park and isn’t this same lady a Lib Dem?

The second leaflet pushed through the door being a flyer for joining a martial arts class – hmm, might need that.......!?

Also this week the post person has given me numerous bits of unsolicited mail from holidays to merchandise.

My recycling bin is almost filled with unwanted advertising material which we are unable to stop, some in plastic packaging which is often un recyclable filling our oceans, blowing in the wind, draped on wires and trees, and all we hear is we must do our bit with plastic material.

We are threatened with tax on goods bought in plastic but at the end of the day the government must act at the source not the unfortunate purchaser.

The other issue I have is that the government keeps changing health warnings on for instance, butter, one week it's better than the substitutes, the next it’s harmful.

Similar health warning are issued on alcohol.

What about using good old common sense or are we now living in a nanny state where it doesn’t exist any longer and we need to be told everything we need to do..? if so I don’t think I will fit in.......

So how about stop sending mixed messages as one day, for me, memory loss may kick in and I’ll forget what pearls of wisdom were issued last week.
