A lively crown turned out to enjoy All Saints School's fifth annual arts festival, despite poor weather.

Organised by the Friends of All Saints School Association (FASSA), the event brought the Wyke Regis community together to enjoy local bands, soloists and artists, as well as dance troupes, majorettes and vintage vehicles.

A kaleidoscope of side attractions and stalls had the venue buzzing – on offer was a Lego walk, henna tattoos, hair colours and glitter tattoos, as well as traditional tombola, face painting and hook-a-duck.

Smells of delicious barbecue and cooked food wafted outside, with cakes and hot drinks being served by the WI inside the school.

One of the more unusual side attractions this year was the Bugman, with a variety of exotic creepy crawlies including tarantulas and a scorpion.

He said: "It's my first time here, there's been a lot of interest in the bugs, not too many people have been scared so far."

Festival attendees Amelia, Eleanor and Penelope tried their hand at hook-a-duck. Amelia, who is a year 8 pupil at All Saints said: "My favourite thing is the bands - it's a bit like being at a music festival."

This year the festival is raising funds to help resurface the school's football pitch; organisers estimate the fundraising total to be around £3,800.

Friends Association member Kim Newstead said: "It's fantastic to see so many performers here at the festival.

"It's a great opportunity for our talented students to get up on stage, as well as having local bands, dancers and artists.

"The Friends Association has been working on organising the event all year so I'm really pleased to see it all come together and to have such a great turnout despite the rain.

"We'd like to thank everyone who has put time and effort into making it a success.

"A big 'thank you' must also go to Weyline Taxis, Danny's Automatics and JD Wetherspoon, as well as all the other businesses that have supported us by sponsoring the event."
