So Christine, what do you suggest we do about it. I refer to the front page of the Echo 15 September, headline, "We're not listening" from Councillor Christine James.

There can't be many people in Weymouth who don't share the sentiment. Most of us who care about our town have been saying the same thing for years. Some new brainwave is proposed, (eg. seafront lights, development of old council building, Brewers Quay, remove roundabouts, Peninsular development, etc.) the good people of the town are allowed to "CONSULT" and what do you know popular opinion is ignored.

The latest plan to development behind the Pavilion though is without doubt going to have a long term disastrous effect on the prosperity of the town.

A seaside town without a theatre, Oh yes, because without doubt that would be the result if you lose 231 parking spaces. The council would finally get their way and close the theatre by default, as numbers would diminish. Which is also, a complete insult to Phil and Lou who have proven beyond doubt that if the right shows are there, the people will come and the theatre can be a success.

I base my feelings on the statements made by certain councillors the last time they tried to demolish the Pavilion. Thankfully the council are equally as bad at choosing development partners (see above list) otherwise the theatre would have already gone.

One statement at that time, which I will never forget, was, "we will eventually close the Pavilion and develop there". I'm sure some of the people at that meeting will also remember not only that it was said but the forceful intensity that it was spoken with.

So I come back to my question, Christine, if you are serious, what do you suggest we do in an effort to prevent this horror show. Having seen last night's echo (19th Sept.) and realize just how quick the council are trying to push this through, clearly we need to organize something very soon. Perhaps we could start with a meeting, at the pavilion. At least in an effort to test the amount of true support in the town.

Is there anyone who believes we need another mid-range hotel, I'm being polite, and/or 3 more restaurants, please speak up. All of which will need car park space. Unless Mr Cant expects people to walk to those as well.

I am also concerned that if this area is developed in such away that we destroy any possible chance of a future ferry service from Weymouth, we will definitely live to regret it. Especially as the council also seem so against the final phase of the new road to Ferrybridge. Something that would be progressive to the future of Portland Port and who knows, the possibility of a Ferry service from there. If this council actually spoke to people in Jersey and Guernsey they would realize how much they want to rid themselves of Condor.

Apathy must not be allowed to give the council the idea that they are doing this for us. So I suggest you get in touch with Councillor Christine James to prove her right or with me through the pages of this newspaper. After all the councillors are meant to represent us, therefore we need to show them what we want, in no uncertain terms.
