PLANS to construct a small retail and residential complex in Bovington have been agreed by district chiefs.

Developers want to demolish the existing building at King George V Road, which houses a convenience store and a vacant fast food outlet, making way for a new two-storey complex - with a pair of retail units and two residential flats.

Purbeck District Council (PDC) planning committee members ruled on the proposals at a meeting at Westport House, Worgret Road, Wareham, on Wednesday. (Sept 26)

A report to committee members, written by planning case officer Alexandra Dones, recommended permission be granted for the project.

Ms Dones explained: "Although the proposal includes demolishing a building containing two retail units, officers do not consider that the proposals will result in a loss of facilities to the community as the replacement building aims to replace both retain units whilst supplying two residential units in the form of flats."

PDC did not receive any comments from neighbours or residents about the planning application.
