I was not at all happy with the organisers of the Ironman event when driving along Littlemoor Road towards Preston, as at approximately 2.15pm traffic cones had been left blocking road lanes over 30 minutes after all the road closures should have ceased.

This was confusing for all motorists heading out after the event was supposedly finished.

We left Weymouth after visiting Goulds Garden Centre at approximately 3pm and there were still signs out in the Preston area at this time indicating road closures.

Having taken the Combe Valley Road route out of Weymouth we drove straight across the Broadmayne road and down towards Whitcombe. It was only on reaching the main Dorchester to Broadmayne road that we came across a lorry removing signs for the event at the road junction.

This is not good enough for this sort of event.

All temporary road signs should be removed as the last cyclists pass through each closed road. The organisers should provide adequate staff and vehicles to ensure that this is done so as not to inconvenience the long suffering members of the public who have no interest in the event and have come on to the roads after the advertised end of the road closures.

If the organisers cannot improve on this the entire event should be run off the public highway.
