RE John Lee's letter in Wednesday night's Echo.

I remember going to a meeting at the Pavilion theatre when the council were going to build a hotel on a pier before, the Pavilion was full.

Only two people were for it the rest of the people said no,the councillors said we are going ahead with it anyway.

Only councillor Burtwistle was against it, and said remember when election time comes who to vote for.

Perhaps we could have a vote of no confidence in the council, and get somebody who thinks of Weymouth.

I am old enough to remember when Billy Butlin wanted to drain Lodmoor and build a holiday camp there, all the hoteliers said no and the council listened to them. Why won't they listen to us?

Regarding the toilets on the promenade, why can't we not copy the ones they have in Salisbury, where there is a turnstile and an attendant cleaning and giving change the charge being 20p.

I think there are eight ladies and eight gents and two disabled outside with RADAR keys.

As for the fairy lights, Torquay and Paignton, their fairy lights are powered by solar panels on the street lights, some even has wind turbines as well.

If the council wants to develop the town, take a leaf out of Dorchester Brewery Square and develop the old gasworks site.

There is a big area ripe for development bringing work as well as housing.
