A plea to certain lazy, impatient smokers awaiting the arrival of a service two bus at the southbound bus stop on Mercery Road, opposite Sainsbury’s.

Please stop discarding cigarette butts on the pavement and in the hedge.

No bin is provided but that is no excuse for your actions; simply refrain from smoking.

Service two buses run frequently as a rule.

I read that the Dutch organisation ‘Crowded Cities’ has been attempting an innovative method to lessen this problem by training crows to collect discarded cigarette butts and exchange them for an edible reward. Crows are intelligent birds but, rather than recruit Mercery Road’s very own pied crow and his, or her, mate, I would merely request lazy smokers not to drop such unpleasant litter.
