WEYMOUTH: Due to the popularity of the previous event, Weymouth police will be holding another bike marking event on Saturday, October 13. It will take place from 1pm to 3pm in the Rodwell Trail area.

COUNTY: Police are advising residents to be vigilant for telephone scams. People have received calls from someone claiming to be from HMRC demanding payment for outstanding tax. When refused the caller threatens police involvement, followed by a second call using the old Dorset Police telephone number, 01202 222 222, with the caller falsely claiming to be a police officer.

A second telephone scam has been reported where the caller attempts to sell washing machine insurance, falsely using a number for the London College of Physicians.

Anyone concerned about fraud is advised to contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or visit www.actionfraud.police.uk. To verify a police officer call 101.

COUNTY: A tractor stolen from a business in Lillington, near Sherborne was later recovered.

The incident happened on Tuesday, October 2.

The tractor was recovered several hours later during the following morning.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “The tractor was recovered being carried on a flatbed vehicle. The tractor had been covered with a tarpaulin.

“Please check your security arrangements and store your vehicles securely.”

COUNTY: A man was punched in the face in an "unprovoked" attack while walking his dog.

Police said the victim, an older man, was walking his dog at around 5pm on Saturday, September 29. He was approached and punched in the face by another man who is described as a 35 to 40 year old white male covered in tattoos and wearing shorts.

The victim was left with a black eye following the assault on Lenthay Road in Sherborne.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: "The offender had a brown mastiff type dog with him, and was walking with two females who are described as white, one being older than the other.

"This was an unprovoked attack on a man who was simply walking his dog.

"If you saw this incident or if you have any information that may assist the police in identifying this male and the two females with him, please contact Dorset Police."
