A high-profile actor from Game of Thrones is among the cast of an upcoming film shot entirely on Portland.

The isle's Pensylvannia Castle Estate played host to a star-studded line up for 'Happy New Year, Colin Burstead' directed by Ben Wheatley, which tells the story of its lead character who hires a lavish castle for his family to celebrate New Year.

The backdrop for the BBC 2 comedy is the castle and the estate grounds, as well as surrounding locations on Portland, bringing the spotlight to Dorset's coast once again.

Top names including Charles Dance, a.k.a Tywin Lannister in 'Game of Thrones', Neil Maskell who has appeared in 'Silent Witness' and 'Humans', and Joe Cole who played John Shelby in 'Peaky Blinders', will feature alongside Sam Riley, Hayley Squires and Richard Glover in the film which is set to hit the small screen over Christmas.

The group spent time on location on Portland and stayed on the estate while filming.

Jo Peters, estate director at Pennsylvania Castle Estate, said: "Hosting the cast and crew for Happy New Year, Colin Burstead was an exciting project for the team at The Penn.

"With onsite accommodation and catering, the castle offers a complete package for filming and photoshoots with a focus on privacy, space and dramatic settings.

"We cannot wait to see Ben Wheatley’s vision on the big screen, particularly with Portland and The Penn Estate as the backdrop."

It's not the first time that there's been a spotlight on the borough as an ideal location for filming. As reported in the Echo, film crews descended on Weymouth seafront last year to shoot 'Two for Joy', a British feature film starring Billie Piper, which is in cinemas now.

In 2016, famous director Christopher Nolan was joined by Harry Styles, Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy in Weymouth to film scenes for the wartime blockbuster Dunkirk.

Happy New Year, Colin Burstead will premiere at the BFI London Film Festival which takes place from Wednesday, October 10 and Sunday, October 21.
