A person was rescued by firefighters after their car overturned in West Dorset. 

The incident happened today in Melplash.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a road traffic collision on the A3066 at 8.33am.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “One crew from the Beaminster fire station and one crew from the Bridport fire station were mobilised to a report of a road traffic collision located on the A3066 in Melplash.

“On arrival crews located the collision which involved one vehicle which was on its roof with one individual trapped inside.

A spokesman added: “Ambulance crews were in attendance and confirmed there were no major injuries.

“The decision was made to remove the driver's door to gain good access to the casualty and release the seat belt that was holding them in place. The casualty was extracted and placed on a stretcher before being taken to hospital for a check-up.”

The A3066 Crooked Oak Hill was closed due to the overturned car near Twinways Lane.

It has since reopened.
