Two walkers had to be rescued after becoming stuck on a cliff.

The incident happened on Sunday.

Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team was called at 2.08pm by the National Maritime Operations Centre and assisted by Wyke Coastguard.

A man and a woman had got into difficulties close to St George’s Church. They had made their way from a path but had become stuck around 15 meters from the top, when they called in coastguard assistance.

A spokesman for Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team said: “After a brief search of the area, the casualties were located. Two cliff technicians were lowered down to the casualties, who were assessed and found to have no injuries.”

However, one of the casualties had been suffering panic attacks.

“It was decided the best route of recovery would be to place the casualties into a rescue strop and lowered to a safe position at the base of the cliff. Both casualties were then able to walk out along the coast path accompanied by the cliff technicians to Chiswell. They were met by the Portland Bill mobile who gave some safety advice and took details.”

Both teams then returned to their stations.
