ALL things apple will be celebrated at an orchard's annual community day.

The final few touches are being put in place by the team at Bridport Community Orchard ahead of the 11th apple day in October.

Ian Bark, chairman of the Bridport Community Orchard, hopes the event will build on the success from last year.

Ian said: "The 11th Bridport Community Orchard Apple Day will take place on Saturday, October 13 from 11am until 3pm and what a fantastic occasion it promises to be.

"The event rather like the trees has grown year on year and is now one of the highlight occasions in the Bridport calendar.

"Once again the orchard comes alive with a feast of attractions and entertainment."

Visitors will be able to sample refreshments including cider, ploughman's lunches, cakes, pickles and preserves and freshly pressed apple juice.

Ian said: "Alongside you will be able to taste many of the wide range of apples grown in the orchard, get advice about managing your own fruit trees, and Jim the orchard beekeeper will be on hand to show and talk about things bees and honey. "Adults and children alike love investigating what is lurking in the wildlife pond, simply by dipping in the net and all manner of wonderful things will be revealed.

"The children's corner includes a range of games and the giant cardboard construction corner. Last year's pirate ship built during the event was stunning."

There will also be musicians performing during the day, Morris Dancing, a dance theatre performance from No Limits, and Martin's amazing Mummers will bring proceedings to an end.

The proceeds from the event go toward the ongoing support and maintenance of the orchard, to ensure that the whole community can continue to benefit from it.

Last year's event was the 10 year anniversary, and was labelled as a resounding success, with several hundred people turning out to enjoy the celebrations of everything apple.

The Bridport Community Orchard is located on two sites, St Mary's Church Field (off South Street) and Jubilee Green (off Park Road).

The St Mary's Church Field orchard was established in 2008.

This year's event will run from 11am until 3pm at the orchard behind the St Mary's Church.
