A man is due to appear in court today charged in connection with a robbery involving a woman in her 70s.

It comes after a woman was grabbed and knocked to the ground in Dorchester last Friday.

At around 3.05pm, police said a local woman was walking along Alexandra Terrace having been to the bank in the town when it is reported she was grabbed by a man and robbed of her handbag.

The victim was reportedly knocked to the ground during the incident and sustained bruising to her hands and knees.

It prompted detectives to issue an appeal for witnesses and issue a description of the alleged offender who left the scene along an alleyway near to Alexandra Terrace.

Enquiries were underway, including CCTV footage checks.

Detective Sergeant Simon Austin, of Weymouth CID, said at the weekend: “This incident has left the victim understandably shaken.

“I know there were a number of people in the area at the time of this incident and I would ask anyone who witnessed what happened and has not yet spoken to officers to please contact Dorset Police.”

A 47-year-old man from Dorchester has now been charged with robbery.

He is due to appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court today, Monday.
