Police have launched a CCTV appeal following a race hate incident at a shop in Weymouth.

A man reportedly entered McColl's on East Street in Chickerell and used abusive and offensive language, which made a member of staff feel the need to leave.

The incident occurred at around 5.08pm on Thursday, August 16 2018.

Officers have now released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to, after initial enquiries to identify the man involved were unsuccessful.

Police Sergeant Richard Barnett, of Weymouth police, said: “As part of my investigation I am now in a position to issue a CCTV image of a man I would like to speak to and I would urge this man or anyone who recognises him to please contact me.

“Dorset Police is committed to tackling all forms of hate crime and is keen to encourage people to report it. It is a priority for us to ensure that victims of hate crimes or hate incidents are supported and appropriate actions are taken.”
