Hi readers, it’s Emily and William here this week, writing about happiness.

We asked people what would be interesting to read in our column, and many suggested writing about what makes us happy. So, today we are happily writing on the balcony in the sun at Carluccios.

The first thing springing to mind which makes us happy, is writing our Echo column. It’s because people tell us they like reading it and we’ve got more confidence through writing it. We think people understand more about learning disabilities through our column, which makes us feel good.

Of course, lots of other things make us happy too. Like meeting up with friends, listening to music, watching TV, pets, going on holiday, Friendship Club, sunshine, seeing other people happy and being at work.

I, Emily, like work at the care home because the residents might be feeling down. I’m not just serving lunch but cheering them up by telling them news and chatting, if they are lonely. Some of them don’t have any visitors and it feels good to be able to give them some company.

What is happiness? It’s a feeling, it’s an emotion. If other people aren’t happy it can affect us too. Especially if a family member isn’t happy, it can make us feel unhappy as well. Sometimes we can do things to help, but sometimes we all need to time to feel unhappy before we feel happy again.

Some people look happy on the outside but are not happy on the inside. They put on a brave smile and face because they don’t want to upset anybody. We think, if you are not happy inside, it’s good to tell certain people, because a problem shared can be a problem halved.
