Weymouth’s registration office in Dorchester Road could be sold – and may be moved to the district council offices in Commercial Road.

But the decision on where the service will move to will have to wait until the new Weymouth Town Council makes a decision on what it wants to do with the borough council offices, which it is expected to take over when the new council is created in April next year. Even if the move does take place it may mean only being able to guarantee wedding ceremonies on Friday and Saturday.

Other sites being looked at include the town’s library which could host an office for the registration of births, marriages and deaths – although it has no suitable space for marriage ceremonies.

Bookings are currently being taken for ceremonies at the Dorchester Road office only up until mid-January 2020.

A public consultation is expected to take place once an alternative site to the existing building has been identified.
