Excellent weather and lively music provided the perfect recipe for success at an annual festival.

Burton Bradstock's fifth annual Veast of Folk festival has raised a record sum of more than £2,000.

The event, which took place on Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15, saw entertainment provided for both young and old on both days.

Proceedings kicked off on Friday at an event titled 'Songs of the Sea and Tales from The Story Boat', which was held in the village hall.

A presentation was given by Gail McGarva, who told the audience of the development of the Story Boat project, and was followed by songs from Gail and friends, Diana and Penny.

Earlier in the day, the Story Boat had been part of a colourful and musical procession, where it had been pulled from its residency at Burton Bradstock School to the Rectory Gardens.

Throughout the evening, the audience was able to view The Story Boat and its fascinating historical artefacts, as well as some of the school children's project work.

After a Ploughman's supper, the large audience was treated to 'Songs of the Sea' by Chris Deacon and David Powell, with audience participation encouraged throughout.

On Saturday, visitors to the festival were entertained at the 'Music in the Garden', which took place at the Three Horseshoes.

Glorious sunshine saw a large crowd enjoy the talents of nine local bands and singers, each providing lively and varied entertainment.

All musicians gave their time without charge, and together with support from the team at The Three Horseshoes, all the volunteers and generosity of the audience, a record contribution of £1,150 for the RNLI was achieved.

This included a donation of £110 from the Three Horshoes Pub, which gave £1 for every Veast meal which was served during the event.

Organisers of the festival, Roy and Gill Perkins, said: "Our fifth Veast of Folk has been a tremendous success. Our thanks go to everyone for their generosity and for taking The Veast to their hearts."

Sadie Miles, chairman of the RNLI Bridport and District Branch, said: "On behalf of the RNLI Bridport Branch I would like to thank you both and all who were involved in making this year's Veast of Folk weekend a great success, and for the very generous donation of £1,150 which will help boost our branch funds this year."

The new Veast Festival began life in 2014 and was inspired by the Bold Greenfingers Men, a club founded in 1963, which raised money for the lifeboat fund.
