A "significant amount" of scrap metal was stolen from a construction site in Weymouth.

Police said scrap wire and lead was taken from the site at Newton's Cove sometime on the night of Tuesday, October 9. Following investigations by officers, it is believed that the thieves entered the site in a large vehicle or lorry at around 4.40am on Wednesday, October 10.

Witnesses and anyone with information are now being urged to come forward.

Police Constable Carl Wood, of Weymouth police, said: “This break-in involved the theft of a significant amount of scrap metal and we have been carrying out a number of enquiries to identify who is responsible.

“I am appealing to anyone with information about this incident, or who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area of Newton’s Cove in the early hours of Wednesday 10 October, to contact me.”
