A man who was held hostage by a terrorist group for nearly five years will deliver a talk in Dorchester.

Terry Waite CBE, an English humanitarian and author, made headlines after he was kidnapped in 1987 and held hostage for nearly five years by a Lebanese terrorist group.

He is to speak at St Peter’s Church next month.

The first half of the talk will be a reflection on Mr Waite’s life. After an interval there will be a time for audience questions followed by an opportunity to purchase three of his books; Taken on Trust, an account of his time in captivity, and two more recent books Out of the Silence and Solitude.

Those attending will be able to purchase signed books by Mr Waite.

Money from the event will be split between St Peter’s Church and a collection of charities chosen by Mr Waite.

Revd Claire McClelland of St Peter’s Church said: “I am sure we will have a lot to learn from his experiences and his adversity having been kept in solitary confinement for so long.”

Tickets for the event can be purchased from the Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum on High West Street, during its opening hours.

An evening with Terry Waite will be held on Wednesday, November 14. Doors will open around 6.30pm.
