Double, double, toil and trouble.

Be prepared to spot not three but 50 witches in the lower end of Weymouth town centre next week, during the half-term holiday.

The Weymouth Witch Hunt is asking eagle-eyed youngsters to look out for the frightening figures in shop windows from Monday, October 22 to Saturday, October 27.

The 'bewitched' zones will consist of St Alban Street, St Mary Street, St Thomas Street, Maiden Street, Bond Street and St Edmund Street.

Forms for the hunt can be picked up from 'apprentice witch' and organiser Dennis Spurr's Fantastic Sausage Factory store in St Mary Street.

The wicked witch hunt is supported by the Weymouth Business Improvement District (BID).

Dennis, proprietor of the sausage factory, said: "The area will be divided into four or five zones and they will be given names like The Village.

"People will have to look hard to find these witches. It's going to be a lot of fun and the shops have contributed prizes for the winners. So we are urging as many people as possible to take part."

The half-term Halloween fun will culminate in a day of dressing up on the witch hunt's final day, Saturday, October 27.

Dennis said: "On Saturday all the shop keepers will turn into monsters so we will need people to come down and hunt those witches before they cast their spell and help turn us back to normal. We really want to stoke the imagination of all the kids."

The witch hunt is one of several upcoming BID events to be held in Weymouth town centre in the run up to Christmas.

Dennis says he's a big fan of Halloween.

He said: "I love dressing up for it, I've been living in Preston for 26 years and I dress my house up and like to give out sweets.

"I've got six dogs and I like to dress them up for it. We seem to have a lot of people who drive up to our house to see it as they used to come and see it when they were kids. And now they bring their kids!"
