WORK on a town centre improvement plan for Dorchester has almost finished – with some last-minute changes still to be completed in South Street and the Town Pump.

“It has been a fantastic project and of great benefit to Dorchester,” said Dorset County Council brief holder Daryl Turner at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

Work on re-paving South Street, with improvements to the road junctions, and some work on pavements and junctions in the high streets and Trinity Street, has been carried out jointly by the county council, district council and town council.

Cabinet members heard that an underspend of £40,575 for the South Street works would now be returned to Dorchester Town Council to pay for enhancements at Cornhill and around the Town Pump at the top end of South Street.
