YEARS after being installed digital car parking signs in Dorchester are still not working properly.

The signs, on key access roads, display the number of parking spaces available in some town centre car parks.

Since 2014 Cllr Trevor Jones has been trying to get them to work properly.

Now, four years on, he is having another attempt.

At Thursday’s West Dorset District Council meeting he said the information on of the boards as he came to the meeting promised nine free spaces at the Wollaston Field car park and, as he approached the entrance, four cars drove out – which should have brought the vacant spaces to 13. But, he said, it turned out they were leaving because there were no free spaces.

“These gadgets have malfunctioned since day one. They were installed by Dorset County Council using Olympic money .

“It might be a fruitless exercise, but we should ask again for them to be fixed,” he said.
