Young entrepreneurs and eco-warriors headed scooped four national awards for their product designed to reduce plastic waste.

Children from the Eco Club and Entrepreneur Club at Damers First School in Dorchester won four awards in this year's Young Enterprise Fiver Challenge.

The group headed to Disney HQ in London to collect their accolades at an all expenses paid awards ceremony.

For the challenge, pupils pledged £5 to get their business idea off the ground, sourcing materials, preparing sales pitches and planning selling events, aiming to make as much profit as they can.

The Damers group came up with the idea of Waxtastic No Plastic, a 100 per cent cotton material dipped in Dorset Beeswax which can be used as an alternative to cling film to cover or wrap any food, except meat.

The children have sold their product at Poundbury Farmers’ Market, Dorset Food and Arts Festival, outside Poundbury Waitrose and at the Dorset County Show.

So far they have made an extraordinary £3,372 profit which will go towards a nature area with pond for the school grounds.

The children scooped four accolades in the challenge winning the eight-year-old best group category, most profitable product, best logo and best advertisement - beating children from more than 1,500 primary schools from across the UK.

The awards were presented to them by David Ribi, Channel 5 Milkshake presenter and the children were also treated to a magic show at the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith.

Headteacher, Catherine Smith said: "I felt so proud to accompany this talented group of children to their celebration in London and delighted to watch the children take centre stage in this national competition for the third year running. Once again the children worked incredibly hard to set up a successful business that reflects both their passion to protect our environment and their incredible entrepreneurial skills, building strong and lasting connections with local businesses and the community along the way.”
