Hundreds of visitors were once again invited for an exclusive look behind the scenes at a hospital’s annual open day.

Dorset County Hospital opened its doors to the public on Saturday, giving people a unique insight into what happens on a day-to-day basis inside the hospital walls.

Dozens of people packed onto tours around the theatre and diagnostic imaging areas, one of the most popular features of the hospital’s annual event, giving adults and children alike the chance to meet the people behind the masks.

This year, the theatre team placed prices on each piece of equipment for visitors to get an impression of just how each piece of technology costs.

Visitors also browsed displays in the Education Centre which featured information about the hospital’s charity, recruitment and volunteering, organ donation, hospital membership, breast awareness and the Digital Care Record.

LiveWell Dorset offered quick ‘body MOT’ tests where people could find out how healthy their lungs are, check their weight and have their blood pressure checked.

And the ever-popular Teddy Bear Clinic also made a welcome return, where young visitors brought along their favourite cuddly toy or doll to have a heart check-up or to have their ‘wounds’ treated.

A spokesman for Dorset County Hospital said: "A massive thank you to both the public and our staff who came to support our Open Day on Saturday. We had more than 200 people attend and some excellent feedback."
