It's that time of year when the evenings are getting darker earlier, the warm clothing comes out, and Catherine Wheels light up the sky.

The clocks go back on Sunday and winter will be well and truly here by the time bonfire night comes around.

It's been more than 400 years since the failed Gunpowder Plot, and two events have been organised to make sure history is kept alive.

The first taking place will be the Bonfire on the Beach, taking place this Saturday (October 27).

Organised by West Bay Days, the event will include live music, an outdoor bar, a fun fair, food, drink and more.

Returning after a successful year last year will be Out of Order, and they are joined on the bill by Nina Garcia and Mama Feel Good.

The event will take place from 6pm until 10pm and will include a fireworks display at East Beach.

Organisers are hoping to build on the record crowds of last year's bonfire, and are in good spirits following the success of this year's West Bay Day.

Chairman of the West Bay Days organising committee, James Radcliffe, said: "Following our extremely successful West Bay day in August, we are really looking forward to putting on another spectacular event.

"Whilst it's a free event, we do hope people are generous in their donations as all profits go to local causes and charities which this year includes St Catherine's Pre-School and First West Bay Scouts."

The second event, Bridport Round Table's Bridport Fireworks Display, will take place on Saturday, November 3 at Bridport Leisure Centre from 7pm until 10pm.

Simon Wakley, member of Bridport Round Table and organiser of the fireworks for the past seven years, said: "Last year was really successful, we were lucky with the weather and it was really well attended.

"This year we will one again be letting children under 12 get in free. It worked really well last year and always generates great support from the people of Bridport.

"We are putting on the fireworks for families and really hope that people come in to the event.

"It would be lovely to see them come in and to help us create a better atmosphere."

The display will be underway from 8pm, with tickets £4 per adult and children under 12 gaining free entry.
