A rotary club has continued its efforts to support international fundraising initiatives.

Members of Lyme Regis Rotary Club got their thinking caps on to raise money for one of its long-term projects at its 2018 annual quiz.

The quiz was held on Friday, October 12 at Uplyme Village Hall with the aim of raising funds for the Nepal School rebuilding project, which the club supports alongside several other Rotary Clubs in the Rotary District (District 1200).

A magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit the country on April, 25 2015, killing more than 9,000 and injuring 22,000, and according to Nepalese government figures, 475 of the 545 schools in the Sindhupalchok District were completely destroyed.

Children in the Sindhupalchok District are currently doing their learning in temporary learning centres made of corrugated iron.

Sixty people attended the quiz, and a sum of £517 was raised to the project.

This is set to be increased to £550 and sent to the Rotary Club of Yeovil, who are managing the fund aising to gain the maximum grants available, and will go towards rebuilding a new six-room, two storey earthquake-resistant school building, which is thought to cost £64,000.

President of the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis, Peter Fortnam, said: "A great result considering the weather early on in the day.

"This will go a long way together with our other donations towards the rebuild of the Nepal school at Shree Saraswoti demolished by the 2015 earthquake. Many thanks to Jim Moseley for acting as quizmaster."

Members have also thanked the general public for their generosity towards a collection for the Indonesian earthquake victims.

Rotarians held street collections in Lyme Regis and Charmouth on Saturday, October 5, and a total of £864.07 was collected, with £461,60 coming in from Charmouth and £402.47 from Lyme Regis.

The club has given its thanks to all who generously supported the collection.

The money has been rounded up to £1,000 by the club and £500 has already been sent to Shelterbox and Water Survival, both Rotary organised charities. For more information about the Nepal School rebuilding project, you can visit hungryplanet.com
