THE RIDERS for Dorset-based Team Frontrow GB have been clocking up the miles on the county's lanes after receiving their custom-made bikes for the Dakar Rally.
The bikes arrived at the team's HQ at Rogers Hill, near Briantspuddle, in time for some local roadwork to get used to the machines before the full Team Frontrow GB headed off to southern Spain and north Africa for special training for the gruelling desert race.
Riders Stan Watt, 36, from Winterborne Whitechurch, and Jon Stamper, 41, from Kent, will have their full support team behind them as they undergo training and testing in similar conditions to those they will face in the 2008 Euromilhoes Lisbon-Dakar Rally in January. After their local road testing the bikes were loaded on to their support truck, which the riders will meet in southern Spain.
Mr Watt said: "The group will then utilise the local ferry crossing to Nador in Morocco, where the off-road starts and, following the road book and using their navigation techniques, the riders will make their way to Messuga.
"Messuga will be where the team will locate its base for six days prior to moving on to the Guy Hoquet International Rallye and will test the new KTM 690 Rallye Replica "Front Row GB will be carrying out training and competing in the rally with a full team compliment of riders and supporting crew."
