PLANS have been submitted for 18 homes to be built in Upwey.

Palmer Homes Ltd has applied for outline planning permission to build the homes at land off Chesterfield Place, off the Dorchester Road and across from the Royal Standard pub.

People are being invited to submit any comments for councillors to take into consideration by November 25.

The site lies within the Upwey Conservation Area and developers plan that access to the homes would be via Prospect Place, currently an unmade and unadopted access track.

Documents submitted as part of the plans state that the site is in a ‘highly sustainable location’ within walking distance of shops and facilities and that it has good public transport links.

The document states: “The site lies within the Upwey Conservation Area. It is also lies within an Important Open Gap, as designated in the Local Plan. It is not, however, within the Dorset AONB. A small stream runs adjacent to the southern site boundary but the site is located within the Environment Agency Flood Zone 1 – at the lowest probability of flooding. Flood risk is not therefore a constraint to residential development.”

The development proposed includes six affordable houses, in the form of two terraces of three two-storey houses. A document submitted as part of the application adds that this will help to address the area’s affordable housing need.

The plans will be discussed by a meeting of Weymouth and Portland Borough Council’s planning committee at a date to be confirmed.
