Communities will fall silent tomorrow as events are held to mark 100 years of the end of the First World War.

It is particularly significant this year with the centenary of the Armistice, also falling on Remembrance Sunday.

A number of remembrance events and services are being held – include beacons being lit.

In Weymouth, a service and parade will take place at the war memorial opposite Hotel Prince Regent starting at just before 11am.

Following a wreath-laying service there will be a parade down the seafront to the US war memorial for a short service.

Danny Boyles’ Pages of the Sea artistic tribute will get underway on Weymouth Beach from 12.30pm.

A beacon lighting ceremony will begin at the Nothe Fort at 6pm.

On Portland, a Festival of Remembrance is being held at The Drill Hall today.

Tomorrow there will be a march from The Drill Hall to Portland Cenotaph, along Easton Lane, where there will be a service of remembrance at 10.55am.

At 12.30pm, a service of remembrance will take place at the American war memorial in Victoria Gardens.

At 6.30pm residents will gather at the Olympic Rings for a beacon lighting ceremony.

Afterwards there will be a small service at The Drill Hall, where there will be some music and warm soup and rolls served.

Events in Dorchester started on Wednesday with a Homecoming event and launch of the town's Poppy Trail.

The Dorchester Remembrance Sunday Service will take place at the war memorial.

At 7pm there will be beacon lighting at Salisbury Fields.

Bridport's event will start with a parade through the town centre and then a service at the war memorial and service at St Mary’s Church.

The beacon will be lit at Coneygar Hill.

In Charmouth, the parade will gather at Charmouth House car park at 10.15am before commencing at 10.35am and making its way to the war memorial. After a short service, the parade will march to the church.

A beacon will be lit on Charmouth’s Evans Cliff.

In Lyme Regis, the face of Rifleman Kulbir Thapa will appear in the sand as part of director Danny Boyle’s Pages of the Sea.

This will follow the annual Remembrance Sunday parade and service

To conclude the day, a beacon will be lit on the North Wall at 7pm.
