POLICE have issued a warning after receiving several reports of bogus callers pretending to be genuine tradesmen.

Officers say they have received reports of the bogus workers knocking round homes in Weymouth and offering to carry out work to the property.

Now, residents are being urged not to answer the door to anyone they are not expecting.

Weymouth and Portland Police posted about the reports on their Facebook page, saying: "Genuine tradespeople will carry ID with them and give you a chance to consider the work before it is carried out.

"If you believe you have been the victim of a rogue trader, contact Trading Standards by visiting www.tradingstandards.uk/consumers/support-advice. "However, if you see anyone who you believe to be suspicious in the area, contact Dorset Police on 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress."
