A vintage singing group showed their support for the 2018 Poppy Appeal with a special performance at a local superstore.

The Decadettes, an all-female singing group based in Weymouth, put on a special show for shoppers at Tesco in Dorchester in support of the Royal British Legion (RBL).

The quarter wore poppy dresses for the occasion and wowed passers-by with vintage harmonies and dance moves whilst raising money for an important cause.

Anna-Maria Geare of The Decadettes said: “This is the third year that we have raised money here, it’s lovely and we’re so pleased to be asked to perform. They always encourage us to come.

“The Royal British Legion is our chosen charity and people always give so generously.”

The 2018 Poppy Appeal is particularly poignant as it marks 100 years since the end of the First World War. This year, the appeal urges people to say ‘thank you’ to all those who served, sacrificed and changed the world.

Ian Jarvis, community fundraiser for the RBL in Dorset, said: “The Decadettes have performed here free of charge for three years now.

“Some people walking into the store are looking glum and then when they come out they are smiling. It really makes a difference to have them here.

“People in Dorchester have been brilliant. It’s my eighth day fundraising here and we’ve raised in excess of £4000.”

The Decadettes recently performed at the Festival of Remembrance at Weymouth Pavilion, which saw an 800-strong audience pay tribute to those who lost their lives in conflict.

Tesco Dorchester store manager John Williams said: "They've been amazing, and donations this year have exceeded all previous years.

"They have generated a huge amount of interest."
