YMCA notched up their third Weymouth & District League win of the season in inflicting a fourth straight defeat on Park District X.

Despite John Ryan’s maximum for Park, Alec Brown (1) contributed their only other point in a 22-10 loss.

Steve White (6), Andy Webb (7) and Ken Brake (7) were on fine form to secure the victory for the Dorchester outfit.

Springfield A had a fairly straightforward success over Red Triangle with Jeff Rigby and Tim Scott both scoring full points.

Derrick Dawson and Mike Spracklen chipped in with four points apiece for Red Triangle in their 26-9 loss.

Park District A made it three wins from four in a dominant 27-6 win over Preston B.

The only slight surprise on the night was the 3-0 triumph Preston’s Terry Whitworth (3) secured over Geoff Ware (6).

Roger Lovell (2) lost out in a mammoth five-setter to Mike Doyle (9) after leading 2-1 with Miranda Edwardes securing their only other point, while Ray Cody did not drop a leg in scoring a maximum for Park.

Budmouth A continue to blaze a trail at the top of the division after a tough fought victory 29-10 over Colliton X.

Will Jolliffe (8) was the only Budmouth player to lose a match in a brilliant encounter. Jolliffe had taken a two-set lead against Raj Lehal (6) and looked comfortable but a tremendous comeback from Lehal saw him overhaul the deficit to take the match 11-9 in the decider.

Lehal was, however, on the wrong side of another five-setter in the closing singles going down 13-11 in the fifth to Josh Clark (9).

Shipton Gorge B had a very enjoyable evening with old friends from Colliton C on Tuesday evening.

Points were often hard fought and lengthy and, as is often the case, did not reflect in the match score of 28-7 in Shipton’s favour.

Brian Cammell and Graham Albertella scored maximums for Shipton, whereas the Colliton highlights were Jim Chamberlain’s (3) bamboozling of Derek Wheeler (7) and a very hard fought doubles.

Preston A were too strong for a young but spirited Budmouth C team and ran out 25-13 winners.

Eddie Chapman secured a maximum for Preston with Derrick Shilliday (7) and Steve Rockett (6) supporting him well. Edith Dedman (6) got two wins on the night and looks to be improving well.

Paul Arnold and Chris Whitefield both continued to show why they are in the top three of the averages with confident performances taking nine each in Springfield B’s 26-9 home success over Shipton Gorge C.

Dan Coran had two close matches going to five legs, winning one and losing the other and Tom Baldry proved too strong for Gary Ayles winning three straight legs.

However the regular doubles pairing of Ayles and Arnold proved too strong for the visitors winning in three straight legs.

There were some very close matches in Springfield D’s win over Park District Y, mainly involving Mike Wood (9) and Terry Bown (2) on his league debut.

All of the Park team provided good competition and all three picked up victories, which promises well for their future fixtures.

Barry Thomas (9) was again unstoppable in helping Springfield maintain their unbeaten record.

Ethan Bingham (9) was the difference between the two sides as he saw Wey Valley through to a comfortable 21-10 victory over Budmouth E.

The girls from Budmouth started well with Sophie Storey (6) and Ashleigh Browne (3) both winning their opening matches but Bingham did not drop a leg on the night in a great performance.

Preston D closed the gap between themselves and Wyke B in defeating them 21-18.

Roy Sharp (9) got Wyke off to a great start in beating Stan Smith (7) but a run of four straight games, including two wins for Roger Winstanley saw Preston open up a gap Wyke could not close.
