A law firm has chosen a cancer support group to be its charity partner.

GO Girls helps women with gynaecological cancers and now has hundreds of members since launching in 2015.

Porter Dodson, a Top 200 UK law firm based across Somerset and Dorset began to follow the work of the GO Girls, and they felt this was a cause they wanted to invest in as their charity of the year for 2019.

Scott Bowley, partner at the Bridport branch, said: “It was a natural choice: GO Girls reflect our values of hard-work, professionalism and making a real difference to people’s lives – lives less fortunate than our own.”

GO Girls, which supports people with cancer, often on long and difficult journeys was delighted to get the news.

Hilary Maxwell, chairman of GO Girls, said: “We are always so grateful for the support we receive. We now have nearly 800 members and each week more and more people follow and support our work. Everyone seems to love the GO Girls way – our grass roots support, our campaigning work to raise awareness of gynaecological cancers and the fun and life we bring to help support those with cancer. We will be looking forward to a very productive year with Porter Dodson.”

Mr Bowley added: “We hope to raise as much funds as we can to support the GO Girls work – with 1 in 2 of us likely to get cancer, the whole Bridport team have signed up to support this incredible charity.”

GO Girls formed in 2015 to support all women with gynaecological cancers (endometrial or womb - the most common, ovarian - historically referred to as the "silent killer", cervical, vulval and vaginal). Since its inception, the charity has grown significantly with 771 members across the UK, and is supported by its Patron, Helen Lederer, one of Britain’s best known faces in the field of comedy, writing and acting.

GO Girls wants to ensure all women with gynaecological cancers receive the support they truly deserve on what is often a lonely and difficult journey with survival rates still very low, particularly for those with ovarian cancers.

In addition to raising awareness, GO Girls! offers an online support group, information, monthly face-to-face meetings, and fundraises for more support services.
