Police have objected to an outside bar licence for New Year’s Eve for a Weymouth nightclub.

The Actors Nightclub in Maiden Street wants to set up a temporary bar on the pavement outside the club, running from 9pm until 5am the following morning.

A decision on the outside bar Temporary Event Notice will be made by Weymouth and Portland’s licensing sub committee on November 21.

In the objection to the temporary permission Sarah Dutton, the Dorset Police alcohol licensing officer says: “I wish to object, as using the area in accordance to a TEN (Temporary Event Notice) would undermine the licensing objectives of Prevention of Crime, and Disorder and Public Safety.”

Licensing committee members are being told that they have three alternatives – to let the proposal go ahead by issuing what is known as a counter notice; modifying the notice with respect to hours or activities; or decline a counter notice, which would prevent the pavement bar being used.
