There's to be more disruption on the Weymouth-Waterloo line this Saturday due to a rail strike – and it comes after days of problems on the route.

Hundreds of trains were cancelled on the South Western Railway (SWR) network on Monday due to overrunning engineering works between Surbiton and London Waterloo.

Yesterday there was more travel misery due to icy conditions affecting the electricity conductor rail between Weymouth and Wool. There were delays as trains were struggling to take power from the line.

Later there were more delays after a passenger was taken ill on a train at Clapham Junction.

Meanwhile, around half of SWR’s normal services will run this Saturday due to another strike by the RMT union.

There will be an hourly rail shuttle between Weymouth, Dorchester South and Bournemouth. Change at Bournemouth to catch a train towards Southampton and London.

Fans attending the England Quilter International rugby match at Twickenham are advised to plan their journey in advance and allow extra time for journeys as services will be busier than usual.

A SWR spokesman said: “We will do everything we can to keep customers moving and reduce disruption whenever the RMT strikes.”
