Young school children from The Prince of Wales School in Dorchester are spreading the true spirit of Christmas with their own “Christmas Advert” this festive season.

Headteacher at The Prince of Wales School, Mr. Gary Spracklen said: “The children themselves wanted to convey a deeper Christmas message this year and were inspired to create their own Christmas “advert” by the John Lewis advert featuring Elton John. The advert is in addition to the normal Christmas play/nativity”.

Class Teacher, Mr. Chris Gibson, who coordinated the project said: “The children really led the production process - sharing ideas, developing a script and thinking all the time about what message to convey to their audience. They showed maturity well beyond their years and I believe they’ve created something truly magical that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike”.

Star of the film, Alfie, who is in Year 1 at The Prince of Wales School, said: “I loved making the film. I hope everybody enjoys watching it."

The film, which simultaneously premiered to Year 1 parents and carers in a Class Assembly and to the world on The Prince of Wales School’s Facebook Page has already received acclamation.

Parent, Jo Dovell said: “Brilliant..... I’m so emotional watching that. Beats John Lewis!”, while Alison Parnell, a Dorset resident said:“The best Christmas 'advert' in my humble opinion. Made by fabulous children at a local school...five year olds are priceless in their simplicity. I cried happy tears”.

Headteacher Mr. Spracklen encouraged more schools to take a lead on fighting what he described as the “commercialisation of Christmas” he adds, “schools are uniquely placed in their communities to provide a message of love, respect and goodwill at Christmas. It’s important we teach children the values of respect, tolerance, joy and forgiveness all year round but what better way to do this than through the power of Christmas!”.
