A driver had to be cut free from their car after hitting a tree.

The car became wedged between a tree trunk and one of its branches after leaving the road near the Black Dog Inn in East Stoke on Sunday night.

An off-duty firefighter from Swanage was first on the scene of the crash at around 10pm on Sunday, and the report was picked up by fire crews in Wareham.

On arrival, firefighters removed the roof to extract the driver who had become trapped.

She was handed over to paramedics and taken to Dorset County Hospital with minor injuries.

A spokesman for Dorset Police confirmed they were called to the crash at 10.33pm on Sunday.

It involved a white Kia Picanto.
