A charity motorbike ride in aid of a rehabilitation centre has announced the dates for its fifth year.

The Ride for Action on Addiction is organised every year by John and Wendy Bramble, who sadly lost their son to substance abuse in 2001.

They have raised over £18,000 in the last four years for Clouds House, one of the longest standing and best-known addiction treatment centres in the country. It is managed by the charity Action on Addiction.

Mr Bramble said: “Back in 2001 we lost our son Craig to substance abuse. We had no idea and it’s still hard for us to believe he was doing stuff like that.

“About a year before the first ride I got talking to someone at Clouds House and they told me about the work they do for people struggling with addiction and their families.

“The rides helped us deal with the death of our son. I used to have a couple days off every year around the time of the anniversary of his death but now it’s a happy grieve because I see the support from other people.

“We have met lots of people who have gone through similar tragedies. We are there to help them and they are there to help us.”

Piers Riseley-Prichard went through Clouds in 2016 and returns every few months to share his experiences with current residents. He said: “Clouds restored my health physically after 30 years of addiction and gave me the understanding and belief that I needed to change.”

Clouds House have spent the money raised by the charity rides to put two people through the centre, as well as completely refurbish one of their boys rooms and renaming it ‘Craig’s Room’.

The money raised this year will go towards refurbishing a girls room at Clouds House and also carrying on their family support system where families learn how to look after their loved one who is struggling with addiction.

The charity ride raised £8,042 at the most recent event but after smashing their previous record every year so far, John and Wendy are hoping to raise over £10,000 this time around.

The ride will be on Sunday, April 14, 2019 from 10am-5pm, starting at ASM Assembly Systems, 11 Albany Road, Granby Ind Estate, Weymouth. Tickets cost £5.
